This past weekend I attended my first Ladies Learning Code event. It was a one day lesson on HTML and CSS. Ladies Learning Code is to help women get started in coding, in a welcoming environment. The event was a lot of fun! I went for fun, and to learn something new, and I learned so much in just a few hours. I later showed Matt (for those who don't know, he's a software developer) what I had created, and he was very impressed! It was a full day, from 10am-4pm, with lunch included. There was a lead who taught the lesson, and lots of mentors around to help. I sat at a table with a couple other ladies, and they were really nice, we were able to help each other and collaborate throughout the session. I will definitely be attending another class. If you have any questions, I'd be happy to tell you more, or you can check out their website.
A beautiful, sunny, Saturday! I was in the market for a class, and Matt came to meet me after.
We walked home and took the scenic route - along Chateau Laurier, and the Parliament buildings.
Gives me a little more hope that spring is coming (for real this time)!
Bringing back the magic bullet - post workout smoothie!
Every year we celebrate my mom's mom's birthday, which falls on St. Patrick's day!
I borrowed Matt's sweatpants ... my legs are longer than his, so I got a pair of floods.
It's been a pretty crazy week, and I have a busy day tomorrow, so Sunday will be my chill day.
Happy Friday everyone, have a great weekend!
1. Headed to a local bakery for fresh muffins, and picked up a smoothie on the way home.
2. Play time with Ruckus!
3. Sunday breakfast, my absolute favourite, OATS! With protein and frozen berries.
4. Starbucks got in spring coloured cups!
This weekend the weather was finally nice! Can't wait for more nice days, and spending time outside.
Yesterday was St. Patrick's Day, so Matt and I went out for a couple beers! He was concerned that with his orange hair, he'd be called a leprechaun and hoisted around the city, so he opted to hide it under a hat. We had a lot of fun! I hope everyone else had a great St. Paddy's Day too!
I was not ready for all of that snow... But it's been a busy beginning to the week with work, so I haven't had time to notice it too much. I've been living in sweats and doing my best to make it to the gym - pretty much a standard start of the week!
Hope everyone's week is going well!
I'm usually pretty good at posting every 3 days but this past week was an exception to that. Monday there was freezing rain that I ended up slipping on and landing in my knee. The swelling has gone down, and now it's only a slightly bruised. That mixed with -25 degree weather, has meant I haven't done too much the past few days. I love winter, and don't mind the cold BUT I am so ready for spring. A few weeks ago when it was warmer, I got my hopes up too high... it's back to freezing, a painful cold wind, and diminishing my motivation to go anywhere.
Now that the clocks have changed, there is more sunlight, and hopefully the weather warms up a bit - I will get back to getting out and actually doing things! Leave us alone, winter, I am so ready for spring!
This morning was cold. Not regular cold but, freezing cold. -32 with the windchill to be exact. Perfect for a slow, relaxing morning. I bundled up and ran down the street to a little bakery, grabbed a couple croissants, and a doughnut. Ran back, and have since spent the morning inside, dreading leaving again. To be clear, the baked goods were definitely worth it.
Have a nice weekend!
My current favourite sushi spot is Ginza on Elgin. It's not a big or pretty restaurant but, the sushi there is so so good. They give out nice serving sizes with large, fresh pieces of fish. Their rolls are delicious, as are their nigiri. It's a little on the pricey side, but worth it for a treat once in a while. Anyone else been here? Or any other sushi recommendations?
My new favourite café has one of the coolest views of the city. Located in Simons in the new portion of the
Rideau Centre, it has a glass roof and side. You can see some of parliament hill and the market.
If you're in Rideau and looking for a cute spot for a coffee then definitely head to Simons -
go up the elevator, turn left, and the café is slightly hidden behind the home goods section.
