Have a great weekend!
Found some pictures I have yet to post - I think! They are from an outdoor movie we went to - Wolf of Wall street. Before the movie we played the sticks game - Kongens Spille! The picture above is yet another 90's girl band style shot ;)
Tomorrow I will be working from home then heading to Bornholm for the weekend! I get back late Sunday night then Monday I will be going to stay with some Danish family, Rolf and Louise. I am still looking for a place and until I find something, family will be taking me in :) I feel extremely lucky to have such wonderful family in Copenhagen!
Have a great weekend!
Last week Connie had 4 friends from Germany over to visit! Sunday we decided to rent a GoBoat :) GoBoat is a Danish start-up where you can rent a little boat for 8 people, with a small silent motor, and a picnic table in the middle. We packed a picnic, bundled up, and headed for the water!
We went through the canals and got to see Copenhagen from the water. There were a few close calls, with canal tour boats, parked boats, and a swan or two. In the end, we all got back to shore safely, and no swans were harmed.
Connie's friend, Phili, brought his guitar and we sang and played music along the way. I tried my hand at the guitar, and I thought I was wonderful. As you can see from the girls directly above, I may not have been quite as good as I thought...
It was a great afternoon out on the water - definitely something I want to do again! Garrett, Crystal, Farfar... who wants to join me!? Now for a busy week ahead, as I am heading to Bornholm this weekend. Bornholm is a small Danish island just south of Sweden. Not the best weather to be at a summer house but I am looking forward to a relaxing weekend :)
Last Friday at work we had our summer party! The summer party started with everyone (about 30 people) trying out a new sport - Taekwondo and yours truly was the teacher. Since I have my black belt, they thought it would be a fun idea. We borrowed some targets from a local club and my mom helped me put together a 1 hour lesson plan. I was a bit nervous, as I haven't done Taekwondo for a few years but, it went very well! Everyone had a lot of fun, worked up a sweat, and learned some cool moves. The bottom left picture is one of my favourites, it is my boss, Eva, kicking the face of her boss, Ture!
After the Taekwondo lesson we hung out, drank, snacked and waited for dinner! Dinner was a BBQ with steak and pork, and salads on the side. The back was decorated and tents were put up. This is where we usually eat our lunches during the summer, just on picnic tables by the water. After dinner we drank some more, played some games and hung out until late in the night... or was it early in the morning..?!
This guy came by on his boat, and we tossed him a beer! If you can see, he has a sign on his boat saying her offers hair cuts, I think the price was around $10. Overall, we had a wonderful summer party :)
Saturday Connie, Jeanne and I rented a care and drove out to Møns Klint for the day! Møns Klint is chalk cliffs on the coast of Denmark, approximately 150km south of Copenhagen.
When we rented the car it was extremely funny because as we stood at the cashier to pay for the rental car, the guy behind the desk seemed to be a bit confused about the price. He kept emphasizing what a good deal we got on the car, and when we asked him whether it was not him who set the prices, he laughed and answered that it was obviously a mistake! We might just go ahead and book our next trip now, while the price is still cheap!
We packed a lunch and had a picnic on the shore. Of course, we had to put our feet in the ice cold water, so cold I got a foot cramp... as you can see in the top left. The picture directly above was taken by a passing mom with her child. She called out to us in German whether she should take our picture (all these Germans around me are starting to color off on me...). The above is the result: what a beautiful picture! Except we kind of look like a girl band straight from the 90s.
We then climbed the 994 steps back to the top of the cliffs where we wandered around the paths along the top.
Connie drove, because I can't drive standard, and I sat in the front seat on the way there which meant I was in charge of directions! My mom is reading this saying "oh no", and oh no is exactly right... you'd think following the GPS on my phone would be simple enough, not to me. We only had to turn around 3 times, there were only about 4 turns on the entire trip. In the end we made it but, I will never be asked to do directions again!
Jeanne moved back to France on Sunday, so it was a perfect end to her time in Copenhagen :) Connie and I are already planning our next one day road trip to who knows where!
The Sweet Sneak girls who host the pop up bakeries I go to, decided to host a pop up cafe! The found a lovely little space, some partners to work with and put on a wonderful weekend. It was a cozy atmosphere with delicious cakes and coffee :)
Sunday afternoon we were just hanging around the apartment like always, and our friend Max was over. Max loves my camera (who doesn't) and asked if he could play around with it and take some pictures. Today I uploaded the pictures and found some I really liked, which I have posted above. Thanks Max!
What a lovely 36 hours! Alyse and her friend Kirsten arrived Friday in Copenhagen and left this morning. I met with them Friday night for dinner and an evening in Tivoli. Saturday they spent on a bike and canal tour and I met them for lunch, a little sight seeing and we finished the night with a family dinner at Annie and Jørgens.
Friday we went to KaffeSalonen, which I have been to many times. It is a little restaurant with seating on a dock on the lakes. We had burgers, enjoyed the evening and watched some swans. After dinner we headed to Tivoli! The girls did some rides, we had ice cream and we caught a little bit of the Fredagsrock concert. Playing the insanely packed concert was Simple Minds, most known for Don't You Forget About Me (from the Breakfast Club).
Saturday it rained. Then a little sun. Then rain. Then rain. Then some more rain. Of course, we still managed to have a wonderful day! We met for lunch, walked down Nyhavn, hung out in a cafe and had dinner with the family. I must say, my favorite part was the dinner :) Since everyone has been so busy this summer I haven't had the chance to see the family that much, so it was nice to spend the evening with them. Now Alyse and Kirsten are off to Norway and Iceland for 2 more weeks of travel! I will be spending my day relaxing, I got up early to go for a 13km run today so I deserve a lazy Sunday :)
This past week has been Fashion Week in Copenhagen. Yesterday I, along with 3 girls from work, headed downtown after work to check out what was going on. Above is Eva, Linda, Jeanne and me! The street was covered on grass and transformed into a garden party. We grabbed a bottle of sparkling wine and sat down to enjoy the late afternoon.
After some time we left the garden party I left to meet Connie and some friends in the park to play a Scandinavian stick game, which has many different names. Essentially, you line up pieces of wood a few meters apart and each team takes turn throwing wooden sticks to know them down. Do not be fooled by the simple nature of this game, it is very fun! It’s nice to play a casual game in the park, rather than just sitting on a blanket. We played girls vs boys and girls won 3/5... Champions! I can't wait for our next park day where we can dominate once again.
Alyse, my cousin, and her roommate have just arrived in Copenhagen for the weekend! They are only here for a couple of days so it will be busy and I can't wait to get started :) have a wonderful weekend!
Today is Connie's 25th Birthday! Woo! We celebrated by having a beautiful brunch. There were 13 of us, everybody brought something different and everything was wonderful. We sat around for hours eating, talking, listening to music and enjoying the day. I made the cake - white vanilla cake with blueberries and a white chocolate icing, I was, of course, a little nervous, but everybody seemed to like it :)
Above, Connie is holding the gift I got for her, it's a poster she's been wanting for many months. It's a map of Copenhagen and the name of the areas fill out the section of the map. I am currently living in Frederiksberg (far left) and I work in Christianshavn (middle right). It's an awesome poster and I am so happy she loves it :)
After brunch we headed to Frederiskberg Park to an outdoor music festival. We have come to realize Danish summer is a whole lot of outdoor music festivals, and we love it! We grabbed some blankets and fled to the sun. The rest of the afternoon was spent at the festival!
Connie is an amazing friend, not just to me but, to everyone and we wanted to give her an amazing day. I think the day was a success in every way :) Happy Birthday Conraddddd!!
