Halloween may not be widly celebrated in Denmark but a few of us decided to dress up at the office today! My coworker, Jeanne, and I decided to go as zebras since we recently got matching Nike zebra running pants. The other night we got together and made our shirts and ears!
I've had a very busy last few days so I've decided to spend my Friday night in! I am too afraid to watch a scary movie alone, so another will have to do. I am hoping to be asleep early so I can get up early tomorrow and enjoy my weekend.
Before our craft session the other night, Jeanne, Eva and I had doughnuts! We found a shop and picked up fresh baked doughnuts. Doughnut shops are hard to find in the city, and this place is definitely a hidden gem. The shop closes once all the doughnuts baked for the day have been sold. We went after work and managed to snag 5 different kinds, the rest were gone! After doughnuts we had a salad, and crafted the night away :)
Last weekend - or the weekend before... one weekend, I went to Dyrehave, about 30km north of Copenhagen. It was a beautiful day to walk around and spot some deer! Connie, Patric, Max, Josefine and I packed a picnic and took the train up.
At first there were no deer to be seen but, as we walked further into the woods, suddenly there were deer everywhere! We trekked through the woods and stumbled across deers everywhere we looked. We then came to an opening, as seen above, where there were hundreds of deer!! I kept trying to chase the group to get closer but, never quite made it...
We found a fallen tree to climb! I had a bit of difficulty... but no injuries :)
It was a fantastic day! The weather was perfect and it was great to get out of the city.
This weekend is grey and quiet but, I will not complain! Last weekend I started Bikram Yoga - 1.5hrs of yoga in a 40 degree room, I think it is a great balance with my running and a nice change from the cold. This weekend will consist of netflix, hot yoga and hot chocolate :)
Last Saturday was the girls' last day in Copenhagen. Luckily, it was fantastic weather so we headed out to see the city. As you can see, we saw lots! The girls rented bikes so it was easy to get around and experience Copenhagen.
Our afternoon was spent in parks, cafes and shops. For dinner we headed to Connie's to have dinner along with Patric and Jonas. For the first time it was equal 3 Canadians and 3 Germans!! Although Lisa and Kristen's father is German... so it looks like once again I was outnumbered by the Germans. Dinner was excellent, and the company was even better!
After dinner we headed to a nearby bar for a beer. Listened to a bit of jazz, hung out, then called it a night. The girls flew out Sunday morning :( I think and hope they had a great time in Copenhagen, I know I had a great time with them here.
I think that is all the visitors I am receiving, which means next time I see everyone will be Christmas! Seeing as it's almost Halloween, I think Christmas will be here before we even know it :)
Friday night Lisa, Kristen and I headed out for a Danish dinner and some drinks. We started the night at Axelborg, an old restaurant recommended to us by Jørgen and it was fantastic. Big plates with traditional Danish meals and of course, a beer on the side. We then headed to the meat packing district to grab a drink. We went to the first bar and found a spot outside to enjoy it. It then got a little cold so we decided to head to the next bar...
We are the only people at the next bar when I ask the bartender "we're a bit early, aren't we"... "uhh yeah". Apparently 10pm is way too early! When we left at 1 it was just getting busy. Despite being out embarrassingly early, we had a great night and were in bed at a reasonable hour ;)
Tuesday night I said goodbye to Garrett, Crystal and Farfar. Joined by Jens, Lisbeth and Rolf, we all headed out for a wonderful goodbye dinner. We went to the same restaurant we went for Brianna's last night, a little restaurant on a harbour. The meal was fantastic, it was a great end to their trip!
Wednesday I had two friends arrive, Lisa and Kristen! I went to University with Lisa in Ottawa and Kristen is her sister, who I've met and hung out with a few times in University. We had a relaxing Wednesday evening, chit chatting and catching up over a bottle (or two) of wine :) Thursday night we headed to the ballet! The picture above is from right before the ballet, Nyhavn my night. I'm used to seeing it during the day but it's an entire different view at night.
We were all fancy and excited to see not only the ballet but, also the old theatre! It was beautiful, a little cozy environment and we had great seats, front row of the 2nd story. At the intermission we discussed what we thought was happening until we came to a general consensus of the story line.
It was a great ballet, a little long though.... I could have done with 2 acts, not 3 ;) We ate street meat for dinner before the ballet, had to chug our wine between acts and almost fell asleep during the 3rd act - we may have broken a few unwritten laws of the ballet but we sure did have fun. Overall we had a fantastic night!
A friend from exchange, Dinuka, is back in Copenhagen to do her masters! She's from Australia, and I haven't seen her since exchange. We've been trying to meet for a few weeks and finally found a free and sunny afternoon to meet for coffee.
We met at my place and hung out in the hipster area around the corner. We sat in the sun and caught up :) I am sure I will be seeing much more of Dinuka!
Garrett and Crystal were out sightseeing this weekend, so I haven't seen much of them. This past week has been very busy between work and all of my visitors, so it was nice to have an easy weekend where I could relax and get some things done (laundry, cleaning, groceries... exciting stuff). Last night I also met up with a friend I knew on exchange, Erik. He is from Calgary and coincidentally also a Hansen! He's back in Copenhagen for short visit. It was a lovely, relaxing and (semi)productive weekend. Garrett and Crystal have 2 more full days before they head back to Canada so I will definitely be seeing them soon! So far they've enjoyed their time :)
Wednesday night Garrett, Farfar, Jørgen and I went out for dinner in the city. We came across this cool spot in the city centre. If you look close enough, you can see meat hanging from the ceiling...!! The restaurant was lovely, as was the food :)
These two are impossible to get a picture of! One's always making a face or making fun of the other...
After dinner we headed to the Hvide Lam - Farfar's favourite Jazz Club! It's been around since the early eighteen hundreds, an I don't think they've changed a thing since then. It was exactly as Farfar remembered it. We had a beer (or maybe a few) and listened to the live jazz in the small smokey bar. I had to leave early because I had work the next morning. The guys however, stayed quite late....!!
