This morning Brianna headed out on a plane back to Canada. It was sad to see her go, we had so much fun while she was here! I have a few days I still need to blog about but I am going to start with Brianna's last couple of days. Brianna's roommate from school, Emma, is currently doing an exchange in Scotland and came to visit Copenhagen Monday-Friday!
May 1st is day of celebration in Denmark! It is a workers holiday and marks the beginning of spring. We met some friends at a park for an afternoon picnic. It seemed like half of the city gathered at this park - eating, drinking and soaking in the sun.
After the festivities at the park we headed down the street to Antje's apartment to have a BBQ on the rooftop terrace. As the sun set, the temperature fell quite a bit but we bundled up and enjoyed the evening. Our contribution to the BBQ was delicious tinfoil packs filled with veggies, cheese and herbs and spices - delicious!! I am looking forward to more BBQs up there this summer :)
Friday Brianna and her roomie Emma headed up to Helsingør to visit Hamlet's Castle. It was Emma's last day and after the castle they headed to the airport. Brianna and I stayed Friday and Saturday night at Annie and Jørgen's house, just 15mins outside of the city. Friday night after dinner we drove down to the water to watch the sunset. We were in a great spot near the airport and the planes flew directly over us as they were landing! The colours of the sunset were absolutely beautiful, and although I do have an excellent camera it was difficult to capture special it was.
Saturday Seb, Brianna, Sander (Seb's friend) and I played mini golf - for those who know me know that I despise mini golf but, I knew everyone else would enjoy it... I know, I'm so nice :) we had planned on heading to a market but when the traffic extended onto the offramp on the highway, we thought it was best to come up with a new idea. After mini golf we met up with Annie and Jørgen and went out for a lovely dinner at restaurant on a harbour. The dinner was delicious, I just need to find an excuse to get Seb to take me back :)
Jørgen has been working for the past year to find as much information on family history as he can. He was showing Brianna and I pictures and documents he has collected and we intrigued but at the same time found it difficult to follow who was related to who and how they were each related. We decided to create a family tree! Above is the tree we put together :) Our names are in the bottom right corner, and our relatives can be traced back to our great great great great grandfather from the 1700's. Some of my ancestors are from Sweden and Norway as well as Denmark - so Scandinavian!
This post feels quite long, not sure if it actually is or if it just feels like it because it has taken me so long to write... that's what happens when I try to write a post, watch TLC and eat mini eggs. Either way, I hope you have enjoyed it and I will post again soon as I still have many pictures from Brianna's and some of Leah's trip :)
