Thursday night we dressed up in our swankiest dresses, chunkiest jewelry, and most dapper bow ties, and headed into the 20's. Jay Gatsby was hosting a Great Gatsby party and we decided to go! A big group of us got together, went Connie and Patric's place for drinks before, then headed to the concert hall for the party.
I decided to try and make whisky sours for the evening and they turned out.... fantastic! Everyone who tried it asked me to them one, which means I quickly ran out of supplies but, everyone was happy. I made my own simple sugar, and freshly squeezed lemon and lime juice (which took forever... note to self, next time buy lemon and lime juice). I finally got to use my penguin martini shaker, which made the bar tending gig even more fun!
To be quite honest, the part was underwhelming.. it felt more like a high school dance than a party the legendary Jay Gatsby would throw. I think the novel and film gave us all unreal expectations for the evening. That being said, everyone there was dressed up and looking fantastic! We decided to enjoy the evening and ended up having a great time :) Two take-aways from Thursday night; I make a killer whisky sour, and headpieces need to make a comeback!!!
