I decided to try and bake some cookies! Everyone knows and loves my dad's homemade cookies so I asked him for the recipe. I went over the ingredients list, found what I already had and translated a list of ingredients to find at the grocery store. I headed down to the grocery store and started what turned into quite the difficult task. I found a few items but then had to ask for some help, the man helped me with a few items until he couldn't figure out what I was looking for. After enlisting the help of yet another employee who used his phone to google what it was I was looking for, we came to the conclusion that shortening doesn't exist in Denmark. Not only does shortening not exist, but neither does chocolate chips! After a bit of searching I was able to find what I determined to be suitable substitutes. Now came time to bake, or so I thought... Before I started I had to convert all of the measurements, apparently one 'cup' isn't a valid form of measurement, who would have thought. Once the baking finally began I could tell right away something wasn't quite right but I went with it. With a bit of help from Seb the cookie dough was ready, put on cookie sheets and thrown in the oven. The first batch was slightly over cooked and the second slightly under cooked. Needless to say, everyone still liked them! Looks like I have a long way to go in the baking department...
